We all know Karunaas. Who is an all-rounder (the Singer, Actor, and Politician)? Ken Karunaas, his son, is also an actor and a director. Ken Karunaas has appeared in films such as Asuran, Viduthalai 2, Vathi, and more. But this film is from his own direction and action. Youth. Yes. Well, it is not a remake of the 2002 film Youth, but a film directed by him, with a bit of help from his gang as well. Let’s get into the review.
I initially thought it was just an ordinary movie by an ordinary actor. But later, I came to know from my school friend that this wasn’t an ordinary film—it starred Ken Karunaas, the son of Karunaas. I’m familiar with actors like Vijay, Sivakarthikeyan, Dhanush, Karthi, Suriya, and many more. But the question here is—who is Ken Karunaas?
I did know the song “Mutta Kalaki,” which is currently trending on Instagram, and “Love-a Sollitale,” which is also becoming popular. I really enjoyed listening to these songs and even started singing along. I had even thought of giving a fun dare challenge for my old school teachers—to dance to this simple, beautiful love song during our annual day. But since there wasn’t enough time, that plan didn’t happen. Anyway, enjoyment comes from within. We don’t need to prove to anyone that we are enjoying something. Almost wherever I go, I put on my AirPods and listen to this wonderful song, composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar and sung by Ken Karunaas.
I also watched the trailer for this film. It was quite interesting and drew me into the story. It was exam period, and my parents had strictly set a rule: no movies or cricket practice until the exams were over. However, I did go to my old school’s annual day celebration. That turned out to be a great stress buster—a time to relax with my family and friends.
It was wonderful to meet my friends and reconnect after almost a year. Since each of us had moved to different schools in different parts of the city, it took over a year for all of us to reunite. The last time we met was in 2024, during the school’s annual day. Naturally, the feeling we experience the very next day is one of sadness. In fact, the word “sad” isn’t enough to describe it. We all feel like we need another day like that—another playdate or outing as a group—because we know the feeling may never be the same again. It’s similar to meeting our parents after a long gap, like in boarding schools, where we may get only an hour or two to spend with our parents. When that time is over, they must return to their routines and studies. The longing stays, and they keep thinking and talking about their parents even after they leave.
For me, it took about a week to move on from that beautiful, memorable day. I had been waiting for it for the past six months, and suddenly, it was over. It felt especially hard because the very next day, I had to begin preparing for my English examination—not just a periodic test, but the annual exam that decides our promotion to the next grade. I did try to study that day, but something didn’t feel right. There was a constant voice inside me saying, “Ask for a movie with your friends. Call them again. Plan another outing.” These thoughts kept pulling me back. This doesn’t happen just to me—it happens to many of us. I’ve often told my school principal that I wish we could have another annual day or another sports day. I think it’s because we wait so long for these special moments, and once they pass, it feels like we’ve lost something precious—something that leaves a temporary emptiness in our lives. But somehow, I managed to move past that feeling. Life gives us such moments only once in a while, and perhaps we need to wait patiently for the next one to come.
Back to the film, yes, I wanted to go to the film with a movie freak and my friend. So yeah, well I was planning to go for this film after my exams are over as a good stress buster with my friends. Well, this plan is a bit too much, from my end. But still, my parents have allowed. You know why – because my friends and I have already gone to Airborne fun-park, where we enjoyed as a group and had some delicious goodies, and went home late at night on the last day of our exams. So planning for another movie on the very next day is definitely too much of an ask for a teenager like me. Don’t you all agree? But my cricket summer camp starts on April 1st, so I wanted to enjoy the free time I have before the camp starts. Once the camp starts, it’s going to be a really hectic one with no free time at all. That’s how any teenager thinks, isn’t it? We all love going out with friends. Well, it is common, and even I love it. Well, I must say that my favourite month of the year is March. Why do you know, I am getting the free time to meet my friends and chill out with them. Even though I miss my cricket and the usual routines with it, I am also enjoying this free time now. Now, as I have given an introduction of how and all the masti we have had, let’s get into it.
This film is literally one of the most important and must-watch films for all teenagers. It’s giving us the message that our parents have been trying to convey to us for a long time. But we normally don’t care to listen to it or accept it. Well, at least let us listen to what Ken and his gang have to say to us through the big screen visuals. Well, the first half is all about Praveen, and this part highlights how he is completely going down the wrong path. He is also not at all worried about studying and passing the exams. Ken Karunaas plays the role of Praveen in this movie. That too, he is in the 11th class, and somehow he manages to pass. Well, they did not show this part. He also puts focus on girls. He always has just a statement running in his mind. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Only love. Yes, it’s just love. He completely wastes his time on girls and doing some weird, silly, and cacophonic stuff with his gang. But don’t worry, there are a couple of scenes where you will feel WOW!
